Something crazy happened this week—I did something I’ve never done before. I completely missed a drop-off date for an art show, and I was mortified.

One of the most common questions I get asked about my artwork is “How did you come up with that?” My process for creating artwork is so completely unique that it can be hard to really wrap your brain around it.

Recently I have been trying to process all that has been going on in the U.S government, it’s a bit overwhelming and such a big thing, that I have questioned how appropriate it is to try to be selling artwork. By comparison, artwork feels like such a small thing even when I know in my gut that art is important.

Once upon a time I had two toddlers only sixteen months apart and my days were filled with toddler stuff and taking care of the house and a dog and that was pretty much all I had time for.  Then one day, my husband came to me and very carefully asked me what was wrong…

Have you killed many houseplants?

I know I certainly have over the years! Once upon a time I really wanted to bring more of nature into my home by having more houseplants. So I would pick up whatever looked pretty in the grocery store or the home improvement place and bring them home and they would look pretty nice for a while.
