What Once Seemed So Far Off… Is Almost Here!
Next weekend, November 7th through 9th, the Placer Artists Tour finally arrives! We’re working right up to the wire getting ready to welcome art lovers from across the region.
My amazing friend Angela Houk has been nothing short of a one-woman construction crew. Over the past few months, she’s transformed what was once a simple breezeway off her patio into a full-fledged artist’s studio. I’ve watched in awe as she tore down walls, framed new doorways and windows, installed electrical and flooring, the whole works. She’s just finished it up as I write this, and I can’t wait to see the beautiful new space filled with her mixed media, nature-inspired artwork.

I’ll be setting up nearby, taking over a portion of her house (sorry, kids!) and bringing along a little slice of my own studio. Among the pieces I’ll be showing are some brand-new mini artworks that came together in a flurry of last-minute inspiration. I pulled out a stack of 3x3” canvas panels I’d tucked away and decided to create a series of whimsical butterfly and insect pieces, perfect for holiday gift giving.
Each of these tiny artworks incorporates vintage maps with their winged companions, and I’m calling the series Traveling Companions. They’re designed to rest on a small easel or — here’s the fun part — attach to your fridge! Each 3x3” canvas has a magnetic backing, giving “refrigerator art” a whole new (and much prettier) meaning.

I can’t remember exactly why I bought those magnetic panels in the first place, but I’m glad I did. These little pieces have become a joyful surprise; a small, meaningful way to share hope and healing through art.
Come visit us during the Placer Artists Tour, November 7th–9th, 10am–5pm daily! You’ll find me at Location 2 (205 East Street, Roseville CA 95678) with Angela Houk, surrounded by art, laughter, and a whole lot of creative energy. Stop by to see Angela’s brand-new studio, say hello, and maybe find a “Traveling Companion” (or two) to take home with you.
Follow me on Instagram and Facebook for sneak peeks and behind-the-scenes updates as we get ready for the Tour, I can’t wait to share it all with you!
