Seeking Peace, Sharing Healing

I’ve been seeking out peaceful spaces for as long as I can remember. One stand-out childhood memory is hiding beneath a big weeping willow tree, protected by the curtain of leaves, sunlight filtering through. It felt like calm security, a secret world all my own. Other times, it was walking alone along a beach on a family outing,  just me, the surf, and the search for seashells, even when there were others around.

As I got older, that desire for peace didn’t fade. I loved having my own bedroom (the only girl - my three brothers had to share!) and keeping a small aquarium in there: a tiny, tranquil world to get lost in.

I’m still creating those potted plant vignettes in my backyard oasis.

When I moved out on my own, it was a whole new kind of joy curating a home, even on a tight budget, to create a peaceful oasis. Later, while raising two toddlers, the garden became my retreat. I’d craft lush little vignettes with potted plants, then photograph them, trying to hold onto those fleeting moments of stillness. Each image became a seed for new artwork: a visual offering of peace and beauty.

Over time, those photographs evolved into the layered mixed media pieces I create today. My walks through the woods and time spent in the garden continue to ground and energize me. But I still feel the need to capture those moments so they don’t just pass by unnoticed. They become art.

Using photo transfers, paint, ephemera, and pressed plants, I build pieces that speak not only of the natural world, but also of faith, hope, and healing. Every layer reflects my lifelong search for beauty, calm, and connection.

Those toddlers are grown now, and there's a next-generation toddler in our lives. My mission has grown, too. While each artwork brings its own sense of stillness, my greater hope is to help you create a calming experience in your home. Artworks, like moments in nature, have an intrinsic power to heal. They uplift the spirit and support our mental and physical well-being.

Maybe it starts with a small corner. A visual reminder to breathe. A touchpoint of hope in the middle of a busy day. Like a soul garden, an art collection can grow, offering deeper roots of peace over time.

And I believe that if more of us create these peaceful, healing spaces, that calm can ripple outward. Maybe, just maybe, we can push back a little of the chaos - for ourselves, and for the world around us.
